| Title | Survival Game |
| Description | Deborah Lawson and I would like to do a survival challenge game. The game is certainly educational, and demands knowledge and decision making, but its not limited to a particular subject area. Audience may be a family or general audience, rather than a classroom (if this is allowed?) We need an ILLUSTRATOR! Here is more of the idea process in formation, taken from the original post... I picture a board game here, similar to a monopoly-style game. The storyline involves a plane crash, and the survivors (teams or individuals) must "race" to the designated point of rescue, across an (impossibly diverse) island that has multiple ecosystems, presenting a variety of different survival challenges (rainforest, desert, arctic tundra, etc...) Players might begin the game by drawing equipment cards that correspond to survival gear. Throughout the game, depending on the situation, they may need to trade cards with other players, or win cards by winning knowledge challenge or physical challenges, in order to acquire the gear they will need to "make it" through certain dangerous situations. The object of the game is... well, I'm not sure yet. Is it to get to the "finish line" (rescue location) first, or is it just to not get there last (because there are only x # of rescue seats, corresponding to # of players minus one)? Does survival depend only upon "making it" individually, or should it involve garnering some sort of favor with the other players (which might be accomplished by offering supplies in times of need, being available to "help" with valuable info during decision making plays, etc...) Still working the details out. The general object is to secure rescue, of course. Success depends on a combination of the following: 1. luck (rolling of die or spinning of wheel combined with drawing of cards. Picturing several different categories of cards: danger cards, fortune cards, and decision cards) 2. knowledge of survival skills or ability to quickly find answers, via google searches, etc.. (decision cards ask players to identify, for example, which of the following plants is edible; or which of the following may be used to treat an insect bite; how can one identify the north star, etc...) and possibly even 3. Success in physical challenges (not sure how or if this would work - one "challenge" card could involve"racing" an opponent of choice, and the winner gets to choose an item from the loser's supply of survival gear. ) I picture the rolling of dice as corresponding to moving a set number of spaces on the board. Each space on the board involves a different command, either: "rest", "draw a danger card" (each of these presents a survival situation. Player needs certain supplies and knowledge in order to survive... ); "Draw a fortune card" (player wins supplies, tools) "Draw a decision card" - player has to make a knowledge-based decision, such as (which of the following is edible...? ) within a specified period of time. May use internet, but time is limited... These are very inchoate ideas, which certainly need further development ... And we need a graphic artist! |
