TitleMeasures
DescriptionThis game would be geared toward middle school - high school music students.

Game supplies:
(4) game pieces in shapes of instruments
(1) die
(1) game board - a musical staff in a circular trail with different colored measures
(50) task cards with 3 categories (fact questions, performance items and aural identification questions) on each card
(50) "note" cards with different rhythmic values
(20) "improvisation" cards (chance)
(4) measure boards with 3 staves labeled with a 4/4, 3/4 & 6/8 time signature
(1) CD with aural examples

The game would target a number of musical concepts including rhythm, instrument descriptions, music theory and aural examples.

In order to win, the student must collect enough notes to correctly complete three measures on their MEASURE CARD using the NOTE CARDS that they collect as they go around the music board.

Each player will receive an instrument board piece and a MEASURE CARD at the beginning of the game. Students roll the die to move their instrument around the board. NOTE CARDS are collected when the student lands on a measure (square) and completes the corresponding task on the TASK CARD. These tasks can include a factual question, a performance task or an aural recognition example. The amount of NOTE CARDS earned is labeled on the card and is weighted to the task.

Students can also land on an IMPROV CARD measure (square) which provides a random element that can affect the gameplay (moving to different location, exchanging NOTE CARD(S) with the pile or from another player, etc.).

Students can use any combination of note values from the collected NOTE CARDS to complete their MEASURE CARD, however it must follow the indicated time signatures. The first student to accurately complete the MEASURE CARD wins!
